What is Practice Based Commissioning?

Gleadless Medical Centre is an active member of the Central Sheffield Consortium of practices.

This means that we work closely with 27 other practices in this area of Sheffield to look at inventive and exciting new ways of delivering health care to our patients using a commissioning process. This can mean offering completely new services delivered by trained and familiar medical and nursing staff that would previously have been offered at hospitals. There are obvious advantages to patients in terms of being treated closer to home but there are also cost savings for the primary health care community, freeing up resources to put back in to more patient care schemes.

Some exciting new projects coming soon as a result of all this work include:

  • Local Diabetes Care
  • Investigations into Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) at your surgery
  • Improving obstetric care
  • Ear Nose and Throat Clinics
  • ScriptSwitch, to deliver safer more cost effective prescribing of medications for our patients.
